CANADIAN COLOURED QUARTERS

Canada was the first country in the world to issue coloured coins as part of the regular currency. So far we have done this four times:

110,000 Canadian soldiers lost their lives in the ten years of the First and Second World Wars, an average of about 11,000 deaths per year. Smoking kills more than four times as many Canadians every year.


2006 Breast Cancer Awareness quarters with pink ribbon design:

This coin won prizes for the "Best new coin" and for the "Most technologically advanced general circulation coin".



Breast cancer kills 5,400 Canadians per year. More Canadian women die every year from lung cancer due to smoking than from breast cancer. Breast cancer deaths are decreasing, but lung cancer deaths are becoming more common in women.


Cigarette smoking kills about 47,000 Canadians per year. Surely it is about time we had a Quit Quarter to promote smoking cessation:
